We have been successful in securing two grants from the ‘Get Doncaster Cycling fund’. As part of the borough wide Get Doncaster Moving Programme, and to celebrate the town’s role in hosting the Tour de Yorkshire 2019 (TDY), this fund has been introduced as part of a programme of activities allowing Get Doncaster Cycling to promote cycling as a recreation, sport and a mode of transport to Doncaster residents.
Grants have been offered to facilitate a ‘festival atmosphere’ and encourage people to be more active in the surrounding communities around the TDY on Thursday 2nd May.
Our aim is to encourage our staff, service users, their friends and families and the local community to join in the celebration of Doncaster’s role in hosting the TDY 2019.
What are we doing?
At New Beginnings on Marshall Avenue in Doncaster we’re having a drumming workshop. This will create a great carnival atmosphere helping everyone along the route to get in the mood and hopefully to join in and “have a go” at banging a drum.
At the Jade Center a newly refurbished Health hub on Askern Rd, Bentley providing support for people with a range of health problems as well as substance misuse we are holding a health promotion event. On the day we’ll be promoting the with events such as the smoothie bike challenge along with offering free fruit and health checks.
Our activities will bring people together who are in treatment and recovery, those working with them along with friends, family and also members of the local community.
