Fitness in Recovery in Doncaster

Aspire service users who are on the road to recovery from drug and alcohol problems are being given a fitness boost thanks to the support of local charity Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT).

The opportunity to swim and use gyms to improve their health can play a key role in someone’s recovery, so over 60 service users a month from Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service are accessing fitness facilities at over 10 locations across the borough, thanks to a reduced rate corporate membership with DCLT.

Aspire Service Manager Stuart Green said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to DCLT for their on-going support.

“Recovering from addiction is not just about removing the substance from your life; it’s about changing your lifestyle and developing your mental and physical wellbeing.

“Regular exercise has a positive impact on all of these, so DCLT’s gym membership gives our service users opportunities to build structure into their day, keep active, try new experiences, and be more involved in the community they live in – which all supports them in their ability to sustain recovery and thrive.”

Jon Whitely from DCLT said: “We are delighted to be able to continue to support Aspire Drug and Alcohol Services.

“We understand the positive impact exercise can have to someone’s overall wellbeing and hope that our partnership can help to make a real difference.”
