Soap star supports Recovery Games

A Doncaster actor is joining the crowds to celebrate those in recovery from drug or alcohol issues at the Recovery Games in Hatfield on August 16.

Richard Crehan, who played a character on Coronation Street with an enduring heroin problem, is coming along to cheer on the competitors taking part and join the celebrations.

The Recovery Games attracts hundreds of people from across the UK who come together in a day of fun, remembrance and celebration.

The event is held by Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service which is run in partnership by The Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS) and Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH).

Richard Crehan said: “I believe it is important to support events like this and celebrate recovery. My mum works at New Beginnings which is part of Aspire and I know that they all do an amazing job to support people in recovery. By attending this event I hope to raise the profile of the work that goes on in the community to help people and families to turn their lives around.”

The Recovery Games will take place on Friday August 16 at Hatfield Activity Centre, Old Thorne Road, Hatfield, DN7 6EQ. Entry is free and the action takes place between 10am and 4.30pm. Spectators are welcome to come along, watch the games and join the spectacular festival of colour and many other activities.

Neil Firbank, Aspire Senior Day Programme Lead, said: “The Recovery Games symbolise that recovery does and can happen with the right support. Those taking part are on their own journey of recovery and once a year they join in and have fun with others who are also experiencing the recovery process. We are grateful for Richard’s support and hope that local people will come along and also support the teams.”
