Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication: Honouring Our Long-Serving ADS Team Members

At The Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS) Staff Conference, we had the pleasure of celebrating four exceptional members of our team who have each dedicated 20 years of service to the organisation. Their commitment, passion, and leadership have been instrumental in shaping ADS into the high-performing, compassionate service it is today.

Join us as we pay tribute to Ali Haynes, Maria Tierney, Liz Hartley, and Paul Martindale — four individuals whose contributions have made a lasting impact on our teams, service users, and the wider community.

Ali Haynes – Practice Development Manager: Driving Innovation and Excellence
Ali Haynes has been a cornerstone of the East Riding Partnership leadership team for many years. With a unique ability to bring out the best in people and challenge constructively, Ali has been at the heart of many innovations that have propelled the service to national recognition. Under Ali’s influence, ADS has become one of the top performing services in the UK, measured by the number of people making substantial progress in treatment.

Ali’s dedication to quality and continuous improvement has helped set the standard for excellence, and her leadership continues to inspire teams across the organisation.

Maria Tierney: The Soft and Fluffy Heart of the Team
Affectionately known as the “soft and fluffy heart” of ADS, Maria Tierney has an extraordinary talent for connecting with people. Her influence extends far beyond individual interactions, shaping the culture and spirit of the teams she has worked with. Maria’s work in Primary Care, particularly her partnership with Paul Martindale at Pocklington Health Centre, has left an enduring legacy.

Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering support have enriched the lives of colleagues and service users alike, making her impact felt throughout the service even today.

Liz Hartley: The Primary Care Queen and Integration Champion
Liz Hartley (pictured) is renowned for her ability to build strong relationships with GPs across the region — charming every one within a five-mile radius! When Liz transitioned to the Inclusion Health Team, she brought with her not only a wealth of primary care knowledge but also emotional intelligence and a deep commitment to collaboration.

Liz has gently guided her team through a journey of integration, with a culture of partnership and shared purpose. Her calm presence and insightful leadership have been key to driving lasting, positive change in how services work together to support vulnerable populations.

Paul Martindale – “Mr. Health”: A National Leader in Harm Minimisation
Known affectionately as “Mr. Health,” Paul Martindale (pictured) is a true motivator for both colleagues and service users. As the founder and developer of The Juice Bar, Paul has been a pioneering force in addressing the complex world of performance-enhancing drugs (IPED).

When Paul first encountered the challenge of IPEDs, he faced a steep learning curve, but his determination and passion quickly made him a national trainer and a widely respected figure in harm minimisation. Paul’s expertise, leadership, and heartfelt dedication have shaped services and inspired teams across the country.
