Congratulations to one of our newest Board Members, Bill McHugh, who has been appointed as Deputy Lieutenant for South Yorkshire.
After a successful career as Chief Probation Officer, Regional Offender Manager and Senior Civil Servant within the Ministry of Justice, Bill joined Doncaster Council. He is currently Culture and Transformation Lead. In January 2025 he was elected as Honorary Fellow to the University of Cambridge Judge Business School for his contribution to academic life.
As Deputy Lieutenant Bill will support the Lord-Lieutenant in their role, representing them in public duties and serving as a bridge between the Crown and the local community. This includes participating in Investiture and citizenship ceremonies; advising on nominations for national honours; assisting with presentations of awards and medals on behalf of the King; liaising with local units of the Armed Forces; attending local civic events; delivering talks to schools, community groups, and organizations.
In his role of a Board Member of the Alcohol and Drug Service, Bill seeks to raise awareness and shape thinking surrounding the challenges drugs and alcohol has on individuals and communities. We are pleased to welcome Bill to the Board and look forward to furthering this shared ambition and supporting him in his new role.
The Alcohol and Drug Service with partners, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust deliver Aspire, the Doncaster Drug and Alcohol service.
