In his new role, he will lead a team of specialist trainers and assessors delivering accredited and bespoke training on drugs and alcohol, motivational interviewing and keys skills in supporting behaviour change. This training is delivered to ADS and partnership staff as well external organisations and businesses. He will shape the training strategy, support high-quality delivery and ensure training stay relevant to real-world challenges faced by organisations and communities.
Shane will use data-driven insights to continuously improve learner experience as well as ensuring staff receiving training are best equipped to provide high quality support to those affected by drugs and alcohol. Shane’s goal is to position Generis as the go-to training provider when employers tackle substance use, stigma and workplace wellbeing.
Originally from Doncaster and now settled in Hull, Shane’s varied career centres on learning and people development. After a law degree, he served as a captain in the Royal Military Police, with deployments to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan in operational and intelligence roles. This instilled a commitment to standards, accountability and “leading by example”.
Post-Army, Shane gained teaching qualifications and worked in food manufacturing management, including a trainee directorship. He built and led a learning academy, managed trainer teams, taught health, safety and food safety, and earned a PGCE.
Recently, Shane ran a nutrition business, gaining insight into trends like performance supplements, weight-loss injections and unregulated substances. This frontline perspective sharpens his focus on emerging risks for employers and staff.
